Etiology
Known as "blackleg", due to swellings in the heavy muscles, much more common in cattle than in goatsSymptoms
May follow castration. Swellings on hip, shoulder, back or neck that crackle when touched. Skin in area becomes cold and insensitive. Prostration, high fever, tremors and early death. The animal may just be found dead with no advance signs. There will be rapid bloating after death.Treatment
Rarely of any value (penicillin).Prevention
Annual vaccinations.
